Lavender Cake with Lemon Curd Filling and Lemon Frosting…
For my birthday, I baked pretty much all day. It’s been a while since I’ve actually baked. It used to be that I would bake on the Sundays when B […]
Hello! This is me! We are from Illinois. Both of B and I attended the same high school but did not really know each other at the time. We met after he finished high school and had been together pretty much ever since. We were married over a decade. We have three fantastic children, Monkey, Dude/Bub, and Monster.
In about 2010, B and I discussed the option of teaching overseas. B is a systems administrator and can fix just about anything. We discussed the pros and cons of such a decision. In the end, we decided to go for it. I worked in the same school as my children in Illinois while I worked to secure a job overseas.
Each year, there were interviews and a couple positions, but most were not feasible because of the added cost of schooling for three children. My position began to make drastic changes, and Love was ready for a change at the end of this past school year. He applied to a government lab. We discussed other locations we would be willing to move to in terms on overseas teaching. I had actually thought this year was done with, but I sent out letters of interest anyway. I made changes to the important papers in preparation for the next recruiting season in November and December.
At the end of April 2016, I received an email from a school in Hong Kong asking for an interview. The day after Mothers' Day, I was offered a position in the international school. At the same time as my interview process, B was going through his interview process with the lab. In the end, he was passed over for whatever reason. After much discussion,we chose to accept the position. We had about two months to get our affairs in order.
It has been a difficult road since leaving my very tight knit family in the States, but my hope is this experience provides my children with unique experiences they would have not had living in a small rural town of Illinois.
So, here we are living in the New Territories of Hong Kong. My children attend schools within my company. B is employed by the same company.
Join us in our adventure as we navigate Hong Kong and create a home since we landed here in Hong Kong on 25th July 2016.

Turning 42 to was actually harder than turning 41. And it’s not because of the age. I don’t feel that old, but that doesn’t matter. It’s more about my marriage ending than I’d like to admit. I think last year, I had hope. I thought maybe things would work out […]
This is our 5th Halloween in Hong Kong. The entire time we’ve been here, we haven’t really found trick or treating. The first year here, we did get the kids costumes. They were all going to the same school at the time, and they were able to wear costumes. After […]
The pink and purple in my hair had faded. The last time I got my hair done was in April. I tried to get an appointment over the half term […]

This past Friday, I had a difficult time getting Monster to go to school. Since the restart of school, she has been resistant to going. She says it’s too hard. […]
When I caught B, it was not the first time I have caught him cheating on me. The first time I caught him was sometime not long after the birth […]
On 5th April 2019, B took me to this place for a nice dinner at the steak house (which I didn’t eat because I was terrified of eating) and for […]
I had gotten an elephant for my nephew. My youngest sister is having a little girl any day now. I asked Monkey to draw a unicorn for me to go with the elephant. This is what she drew. I went to get it done. I was supposed to go with […]
Bub goes back to school starting 29th September. Bub has struggled enough getting up for school. Bub told me he wanted to come to school with me to start getting […]
