Our Week with Fruitbat and Sis
5th October We really didn’t do too much the first day. Between jetlag and all of the transportation being shut down, there wasn’t much we could do. We went to […]
Hello! This is me! We are from Illinois. Both of B and I attended the same high school but did not really know each other at the time. We met after he finished high school and had been together pretty much ever since. We were married over a decade. We have three fantastic children, Monkey, Dude/Bub, and Monster.
In about 2010, B and I discussed the option of teaching overseas. B is a systems administrator and can fix just about anything. We discussed the pros and cons of such a decision. In the end, we decided to go for it. I worked in the same school as my children in Illinois while I worked to secure a job overseas.
Each year, there were interviews and a couple positions, but most were not feasible because of the added cost of schooling for three children. My position began to make drastic changes, and Love was ready for a change at the end of this past school year. He applied to a government lab. We discussed other locations we would be willing to move to in terms on overseas teaching. I had actually thought this year was done with, but I sent out letters of interest anyway. I made changes to the important papers in preparation for the next recruiting season in November and December.
At the end of April 2016, I received an email from a school in Hong Kong asking for an interview. The day after Mothers' Day, I was offered a position in the international school. At the same time as my interview process, B was going through his interview process with the lab. In the end, he was passed over for whatever reason. After much discussion,we chose to accept the position. We had about two months to get our affairs in order.
It has been a difficult road since leaving my very tight knit family in the States, but my hope is this experience provides my children with unique experiences they would have not had living in a small rural town of Illinois.
So, here we are living in the New Territories of Hong Kong. My children attend schools within my company. B is employed by the same company.
Join us in our adventure as we navigate Hong Kong and create a home since we landed here in Hong Kong on 25th July 2016.

My brother and sister arrived into Hong Kong today. They are here for week. If I am honest, I was getting more and more nervous about them being in Hong […]
So far, the most we have gotten in Ma On Shan is the Lennon Walls for the most part. That is until now. We have had more and more vandalism […]
The social committee (which I am one of the two members on the committee) sponsors a junk each year for teachers and staff. A’s friend has a boat, and we […]
It amazes me the level to which people can minimize their behavior. Or maybe he and I have very different definitions of what “overly friendly” means. I had gone out […]
It’s been 6 months since my world fell apart. 6 months since everything changed. Who I am. Who I thought he was. Who we are. It both feels like it […]
It’s been awhile, but I have started going to the gym again. I like the gym that we have in our compound. It’s not huge, and there generally aren’t a […]
I am hard on B. I feel I have that right to be. He has hurt me greatly. After I discovered his betrayal, he kept hurting me. Whether that was […]
I had gone to the store last week and saw this super cute kit for dirt pudding. I had not seen it before. I thought she would love it. She […]
I feel lost. I think that is the best way to put it. I keep going back and forth between him and freedom. We are stuck here right now. I […]
