Hong Kong is an amazing city. It is absolutely gorgeous. There is always something new to see. Even the stuff you’ve seen is worth seeing again. I love Hong Kong. For all of the heart ache and hardships and struggle, I would not trade this experience for anything.
Hello! This is me! We are from Illinois. Both of B and I attended the same high school but did not really know each other at the time. We met after he finished high school and had been together pretty much ever since. We were married over a decade. We have three fantastic children, Monkey, Dude/Bub, and Monster.
About five years ago, B and I discussed the option of teaching overseas. B is a systems administrator and can fix just about anything. We discussed the pros and cons of such a decision. In the end, we decided to go for it. I worked in the same school as my children in Illinois while I worked to secure a job overseas.
Each year, there were interviews and a couple positions, but most were not feasible because of the added cost of schooling for three children. My position began to make drastic changes, and Love was ready for a change at the end of this past school year. He applied to a government lab. We discussed other locations we would be willing to move to in terms on overseas teaching. I had actually thought this year was done with, but I sent out letters of interest anyway. I made changes to the important papers in preparation for the next recruiting season in November and December.
At the end of April 2016, I received an email from a school in Hong Kong asking for an interview. The day after Mothers' Day, I was offered a position in the international school. At the same time as my interview process, B was going through his interview process with the lab. In the end, he was passed over for whatever reason. After much discussion,we chose to accept the position. We had about two months to get our affairs in order.
It has been a difficult road since leaving my very tight knit family in the States, but my hope is this experience provides my children with unique experiences they would have not had living in a small rural town of Illinois.
So, here we are living in the New Territories of Hong Kong. My children attend schools within my company. B is employed by the same company.
Join us in our adventure as we navigate Hong Kong and create a home since we landed here in Hong Kong on 25th July 2016.
We walked away from that place just confused. She agreed with the diagnosis by the educational psychologist. She thought she would better be able to provide for her needs. Honestly, most likely she would have, but for us right now, it’s just not possible. We don’t have the money. We don’t have the means to get her there. I just don’t know what people want me to do at this point.
Today was Monster’s class Christmas party. I had to make a treat for her party. I ended up making rice crispy treats. No one ate them at all in the […]
We came to Hong Kong with very little to no Christmas decorations. We left them all in the US. Limited packing space and all that jazz. We decided that we […]
I’m not sure where we were supposed to go for the 10,000 Buddha Temple, but it wasn’t where we were that’s for sure.
So the idea of a school fair is something I am familiar with mostly because of my love for anime (yeah, I know, but I am neither weeaboo or otaku, I promise). It functions in much the same way as it is portrayed in Japanese media.
We thought about getting a turkey from the grocer in our compound, but I was under the impression I would be in school until late. I ended up getting out a little earlier than I thought. We took the kids to their favorite place to eat. Pizza Hut. Weird, right?
I am sympathetic to their situation to point. Past that point, it is my child, and I will fight for and support her.
I met with PVP again regarding Monster.
It is so good to have Pupper back with us. I am grateful to Daisy and her family for caring for Pupper for the few months we waited. I’m glad we waited to bring her. Not only was it cooler for her, but we were much more settled and ready to enjoy our Pupper.
