3rd Wave of Covid-19

It’s been awhile since talking about this. When we got out of school at the end of June, it was not something we were really concerned about. Cases were low. We had only 4 deaths since about February.

The day we got out of school, there was another death from Covid-19. Most of the cases coming into Hong Kong were imported from other places. We had a low number of people actually hospitalized.

Now, a month later, Things have gone out of control here. I don’t understand what happened. I don’t understand why things got so bad here.

This has been going on for a few weeks now. It just keeps going and going. I have limited how often the kids leave the house. We haven’t really left the area of Ma On Shan since things got really bad. B is still living in his own home and coming from Prince Edward to spend time with the kids. I’m not thrilled with this, but it is better than the alternatives. B is super careful when he is out and about. He is very conscientious about his surroundings in light of the virus. The alternatives are either he doesn’t come here or he stay here. Staying here is straight out at this point. I can’t go back to that again.

So, as far as school goes, we have already been told that at least our first week of school will be done online. After that, we will be going to the hybrid schooling like we were doing at the end of the school year last year.

In terms of Hong Kong as a whole, they just made masks in indoor spaces mandatory (I thought that was already the case). They have also gone back to limiting the amount of people who are able to gather. Only 4 people can sit at a table together. All of the restaurants close their seating areas at 6 PM. You can still get take away. I’m pretty sure the bar district is pretty closed down at this point.

None of us are really thrilled about this, but I think it’s more just to get through this whole mess so it can become a distant memory.

One day, hopefully sooner rather than later, this will become something we all look back on and think, “that was crazy!”

Edit as of 21:00. They announced that dining in at restaurants will end on Wednesday for a week to start. We are also required to wear masks when outdoors.
