Back into It (“It” being the gym)

It’s been awhile, but I have started going to the gym again. I like the gym that we have in our compound. It’s not huge, and there generally aren’t a lot of people there. The equipment works well. I have been doing about 45 minutes on the treadmill just because I get so bored watching Cantonese TV.

I move on to the weight machines. I am super out of shape, but I am getting better. When I first started, I was only able to lift 40 lbs with my arms and 50 lbs with my legs.

Now I can do 60 lbs with my arms and 80 lbs with my legs. That is doing 5 sets of 5 on each machine.

All of this is gratuitous, I suppose. No one really needs to know about my gym habits but me. However, I am quite proud of myself for starting up again. It was easy to go when I was out of work for the summer.

Once I started work, it was so much harder to go. Between the separation and the various issues the kids are having and just work kicking my butt in general, I was exhausted by the end of the day. There was nothing less appealing than dragging myself to the gym after dealing with all of that in a day.

I have been going now for a week (well, technically, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday), and I know this is something I can keep up. The girls don’t get home until around 5 PM anyway. Bub just plays video games with his friends. B doesn’t show up until much later. This is now my time.

I am going to stick to the three days for right now. I think I will add another day in after a few more weeks. What I really need to do is get the membership to the gym. Right now, it’s 15 HKD each time I go. The membership is 150 HKD. As long as I use it more than 10 times in the month, it is definitely going to be worth it.
